Jimi Lalumia

Jimi La Lumia & the Psychotic Frogs, a band who played frequently at Max's released their first single, "Death To Disco (Disco Sucks)" b/w "Wipeout," on tiny indie Death Records in 1978; it sold 10,000 copies, started the anti-disco movement, and became Melody Maker's single of the week in England. The track "Death to Disco" was played on 77AM WABC Radio's Howard Hoffman Show, in a "Top 9 at 9" that included Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In the Wall" and Blondie's "Call Me."

In 1979, Death Records released the four song Typically Tasteless EP, featuring "Mangle Me," "You'll Never Walk Again," the XXX version of "Eleanor Rigby" ("All you fu**in' people"--which wound up on Volume 14 of the Killed By Death series), and a cover of Wayne County's "Fucked By the Devil" (also covered by 45 Grave, who erroneously gave the Frogs writing credit). The track "Mangle Me" received airplay on staple New York rock stations like WPIX, helping to sell several thousand copies of Typically Tasteless.

In 1984, a "live" cassette, Jimi LaLumia & the Psychotic Frogs Greatest Hits: LIVE! at Max's Kansas City was released on the Rather Rude label. In '93, the ESP Disk label reissued this on CD (now very rare) and included the Typically Tasteless EP tracks as a bonus.

In 1990, two tracks from the live album, "Twist and Shout" and "Boys" were released as a gold vinyl picture sleeve single. These two tracks feature Johnny Thunders on guitar, and backup vocals from Donna Destri, Cherry Vanilla and Jayne County.

In 2000, the "Death to Disco" b/w "Wipeout" single and the live tracks with Thunders were included on Something In the Water: The Secret History of Long Island Punk on Under the Volcano fanzine's Winged Disk label. Also included on the limited CD compilation were rare tracks from other historic punk rock acts like Dead Virgins, Horror Planet, Ism, Nihilistics and Sea Monster. Dr. Donna Gaines, author of Teenage Wasteland penned liner notes for this project.

La Lumia is currently working on electronic music, and charted recently with the underground single "The Anthem (I Need To Take Drugs)" on Strong Island Records. The B-side, "For DJs Only," also caused a sensation in clubs internationally. Now Jimi is linked up with Amathus Music and is ready for his first release with the label entitled "Loud Enough" along with "Sorry No Requests".
